Christmas Dinner
Over a hundred Serrans from Seattle, Eastside, Cascade, and Edmonds attended our annual Christmas Dinner. We began with Mass at Saint James Cathedral. Bishop Elizondo was celebrant, joined by our chaplain, Father Paul Magnano, and Cathedral pastor, Father Michael Ryan. At our dinner in the Isaac Orr room, Carol Costello thanked the Serrans for all they do. Archbishop Brunett greeted us and spoke about the importance of Serra. Year For Priests Mass and Dinner at Our Lady of Fatima
Serrans and guests attended the first of our Year For Priests Mass and dinners on October 29 at Our Lady of Fatima. We honored a representative group of priests from the near northwest side of Seattle. Pastor Father Jim Johnson was joined by parochial vicar, Father Fidelis Umukoro, O.P. Also attending and concelebrating at Mass were Father Harry Grile, C.Ss.R., pastor of Sacred Heart; Father Joseph Thong Ngo, C.Ss.R., parochial vicar of Sacred Heart; and Father Stanislaw Michalek, S.Ch., administrator of Saint Margaret of Scotland. We were also honored to have our Club's chaplain, Father Paul Magnano, with us.
The Club gave each priest an appreciative gift: a crystal paper weight with the Serra emblem. Our hope is that the priests will keep it on their desks close at hand, and, when they see it, remember that we support and pray for them. Father Jim Johnson was our homilist and speaker at dinner. In his talk, he briefed Serrans on the Catholics Come Home project, of which he is the coordinator. The archdiocese, he explained, is currently raising money from parishes to air compelling TV spots. The goal is to bring home to the church people in this area and especially the thousands of Catholics who have wandered away from us.
New Hispanic Club is Numero Uno!
The Serra Club of Seattle congratulates our five new priests, ordained by Archbishop Brunett on June 10, 2009. Welcome to Fathers Todd Strange, Jerry Burns, Bryon Dickey, Jacob Maurer, and Patrick O'Hogan. We offer them our prayers and support. |
