2011 Christmas Dinner

On Wednesday evening, December 7, Serrans from our northwestern clubs packed the Isaac Orr room for our annual Christmas Dinner. Honored guests included Archbishop J. Peter Sartain, Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, Archbishop Alexander Brunett, vocation director Father Bryan Dolejsi, and Eastside chaplain Father Ramon Santa Cruz. We shared a great dinner together, heard from Archbishop Sartain and Father Dolejsi, and handed out a variety of door prizes to lucky winners.

Merry Christmas

Our November Dinner at Christ Our Hope Parish

We met at Father Paul Magnano's parish on November 9 for Mass and Dinner. Father Magnano was celebrant with Deacon Roy Harrington in attendance. Barbara Requa was lector, and Marie Bach cantor. In his homily, Father Magnano called attention to the feast day—the dedication of Saint John Lateran—and noted that we were in a church newly founded and dedicated to the work of the church. Serrans present rededicated themselves to the work of Serra and received from president Colm McGinn a Serran pin.

Archbishop Sartain Names New Vocations Director

The Archdiocese of Seattle has a new priest vocations director—Father Bryan Dolejsi, who was ordained in 2006 and has been priest administrator of Saint Joseph parish in Issaquah. Serrans who attended the regional convention we hosted in fall of 2008 will remember Father Dolejsi’s excellent presentation on the role of the parish.

An article in the October 13 Catholic Northwest Progress says that Archbishop J. Peter Sartain “drew on his own experience as vocation director in the diocese of Memphis” and quotes the Archbishop as saying, “I learned there something very important, that when a priest gives personal witness about his own vocation when he’s the vocation director, that’s very important because he’s speaking from his experience.”

We congratulate Father Dolejsi on this important appointment and look forward to assisting him in any way we can.

2011 BASH: Una Cena Italiana

On Sunday, September 18, good Serrans went out for a buona sera, gathering for the annual BASH at the James G.Murphy Auction Facility. We had a good turnout, including guests and Serrans from local clubs and Tacoma. Our special guests were Archbishop Alex Brunett and his brother, visiting from Phoenix. We were also honored to have Fathers Ramon Santa Cruz and Ken Haydock. There were prizes for runners up in the drawing, tempting auction items, and of course grand prizes. Financially, the BASH was a great success, so we expect to present a big check to help fund Quo Vadis 2012 as well as fund our annual appreciation events.

At Quo Vadis Days in July

Quo Vadis Days, the annual archdiocese vocation discernment weekend, was held at beautiful Camp Hamilton out in Monroe. Our Seattle team was on hand again this year to provide a breakfast and a lunch to the 110 hungry young men who attended plus priests and seminarians who were there to manage the event. Special thanks to our cooking team, Jim Klansnic and Paul Oscar, and to you Serrans whose contributions to the 2010 BASH provided funding for the event.

Eastside Serra Renaissance

On July 13, our Mass and Dinner were at Saint John Mary Vianney, Kirkland. Bernie Kaifer and Carol Costello announced the rebirth of the Eastside Club, which for the past few years had joined with the Seattle Club for events. The area of the club includes, for example, Kirkland, Redmond, and Bellevue. After Mass, Father Magnano installed Father Ramon Santa Cruz as the chaplain of the Eastside Club.

2011 Sisters Dinner

Our Annual Sisters dinner on May 10th, this year at the Knights of Columbus Hall, had a great turnout of sisters, Serrans, and guests. Our special guest was Archbishop Brunett. Sister Joyce Cox named all the communities as each group present took a bow. Each sister present received a special gift: a lovely crystal cross. Many sisters wrote us thank-you notes, saying how much they appreciated the dinner and gift, the opportunity to get together with other sisters from around the Archdiocese, and our recognizing their contributions to the work of the church.
